Why Is It Important To Adjust To The Mil-std-1553 Protocol?
It is important to adjust to the mil-std-1553 protocol because it is the United States Department of Defense, U.S. Air Force military standard first published in 1973 and is the protocol in use by military avionics and spacecraft, both for the military and for non military avionics. The MIL-STD-1553 categories all the functional commands both mechanical and electrical found in a serial data bus.
Designed for use by the military, its programming has been put to use in many other aircraft designs and has been chosen by NATO and renamed STANAG 3838 AVS and by other branches of the United States military. The program has the capabilities of network interfacing, protocol to be used in command and response situations and as many as 31 remote terminals to interface with.
The Mil-STD-1553 protocol is also used in handling data on spacecraft. It is used in On Board Data Handling or OBDH subsystems that relay data by electronic devices from the spacecraft to the ground through telemetry, tracking and command subsystems.
Its use in all areas of avionics makes it important in adjusting avionic technology to the mil-std 1553 protocol although it is currently being dropped and designs by FireWire are being used. Some of the advances reported that enhance MIL-1553 interfacing is the PCI Card which makes avionics testing simpler. The program developed has one to four channel MIL-STD-1553 PCI cards that offer interface communication advances in testing and simulation.
Today, companies offer the interface card with the new features for verification of data being sent, capturing signals and measuring voltage, validating protocol, collecting and using data with an advanced analyzer. This program is claimed by the manufacturer to be of immense usefulness in avionics applications. The program is called the MIL-STD-1553 PCI-1553 Interface Card and is designed by protocol technology. It is new technology that has adjusted to the mil-std-1553 protocol and has made it easier to mix application programs interfacing with other commercial protocol engines.
Although requiring a degree in space technology to completely understand, the basic need to understanding the high priority of adjusting new technologies like those developed by Data Technologies to the mil-std-1553 protocol is the widespread use of the program in all areas of avionics throughout the world since 1973. To implement a new program would possibly interfere with communications between programs. Lack of proper communication between these devices that send data and track other information with relay stations might prove to be confusing for the people who rely on such information portals and are also used to the protocol of the mil-std-1553 military information handling system.
The protocol used by the mil-std-1553 has determined the time sequence of command activities that delay or start information collecting and transmitting. If a new protocol system is adopted the possibilities of crossed signals and miscommunication is mind boggling to the everyday non engineering person.
