Taiwan’s optoelectronics output in 2007 reached about 63.3 billion U.S. dollars up 32%
The scale of Taiwan’s optoelectronics industry output in 2006, following the record breaking trillion in 2007, they wrote 32% of the high-growth success. According to Photonics Industry & Technology Association (PIDA) statistics, Taiwan’s optoelectronics output value in 2007 of about 63.3 billion U.S. dollars, equivalent to two trillion NT dollars, 32% growth over last year; the next few years are still expected to maintain growth rates of more than 17% , 2011 may break the size of a 100 billion U.S. dollars, a record 3 trillion NT dollar was another milestone scale.
According to PIDA’s data, with the flat panel display (FPD) market continues to grow, solar rise, high-brightness white LED application was extended, and photovoltaic technology diversification, driven by the global PV market value in 2007 of about 3,780 billion U.S. dollars , growing 14%. Taiwan optoelectronics industry accounts for approximately 17% of the global market; include LED packaging, TFT LCD materials and components, TFT LCD panel, scanners, digital cameras (OEM), information with optical drives, CD-ROM chip and optical lenses and other optical products share of the world are the top three.
PIDA industrial and technological group manager Lin Yingyi, said: “Taiwan’s optoelectronics industry in after 04-06 years of slowdown, the beneficiaries in the second half of 2007 driven by growth in FPD, the overall PV market has become over last year, three percent; forecast this year, Taiwan Optical output is expected to reach 2.4 trillion NT dollars, the growth rate is also more than 15%. “Moreover, Taiwan’s overall growth in the major PV market is still concentrated in a specific product, the top ten high value of optoelectronic products account for market growth of Jiucheng.
The application of surface terms, LED, solar cells, displays the most popular areas are optoelectronic industries. It is noteworthy that the PV industry has high growth for five consecutive years, which solar cell module (470%), silicon-based solar cells (145%) and solar silicon (129%), and ranked top three in Taiwan large high-growth optical products for more than three-digit growth rates in the future there is still considerable growth potential.
The high-brightness white LED in the application area continues to expand, the efficiency gradually increased, the Linying Yi said the ultimate goal remains to replace the traditional light sources in general lighting applications, particularly 70 billion U.S. dollars in the global lighting industry scale, the general lighting around accounted for 40 billion U.S. dollars. The association predicts that in 2008 Taiwan’s solar cell production value will reach 88,779,000,000 yuan; if coupled with wafer, cell and module production together, the overall production value of Taiwan’s solar industry expected to top 100 billion yuan.
