EXHAUST GAS UTILISATION
Every Biker must be aware of the Exhaust Pipe that is provided on a motorcycle to flush the products of combustion into the atmosphere.These flue gases not only affects the atmosphere but also contaminates it thus creating a nuisance in the form of smoke and pollution. But, Is there any alternative to it.Yes,There is one by stopping the formation of these gases i.e combustion without burning!!!!! which at present lies in God’s Hand.
So any other alternative,yes by utilising the exhaust gases to do some useful work.The work can be in the form of running lighting system of bikes without the aid of batteries or providing cooling arrangement for the engine.
As a Thermocouple is a device that measures the temperature difference between two points,it can also convert this temperature potential into electric current which can be used for doing some positive work.This generation of electricity from thermal aid is called Thermoelectricity and was first given by Mr.Seebeck and some contributions of Mr.Peltier.
So,If you are wonndering How thermoelectrics is related to Exhaust Gas Utilisation,Here is the answer
1.Use Thermoelectric devices to generate electric potential by attaching thermocouples on the exhaust pipes which will generate electric current and use of special batteries can be restrained.
2.Cool the engine cylinders by condensing the exhaust gases by passing it from Heat Exchangers and then to the Cooling Jackets.
The proper utilisation of the exhaust is very essential.The above mentioned applications could be limited but the whole thing is very important and proper research should be carried out in this field as there will be a day when the oxygen left in the atmosphere is not sufficient even for respiration of a human being.
The Overall Efficiency and Economy of a motorcycle doesnot mean simply the mileage that it gives,But it also includes the total cost of running the motorcyle which includes the fuel cost +maintenance cost+Auxilliary Power Source(Batteries).
If the Auxilliary Power Source Cost(Battery,Cooling Fans,Etc) is reduced by utilising the exhaust gases to do the same work the economy will be drastically improved.
Therefore for a prosperous future in the automotive industries and to protect our mother nature, these techniques of Exhaust Gas Utilisation should be harnessed.
